Getting started
Installing the Samples
1. Insert the Insane Guitar Tools
CD into your CD-ROM
drive. If using the download version uncompress
the .zip file and place the .rfl file in your Reason
refill filer.
2. On the CD, locate the file called
Insane Guitar Tools.rfl.
3. Copy the file to Reason refill filer
folder or the location of your other Reason .rfl
files.
If you choose not to install the Insane Guitar Tools.rfl,
you will need to insert the Insane Guitar
Tools.rfl CD into the CD-drive each time you
run the program.
Launch Reason and create a mixer and an NN19 sampler.
Browse the sample patches to locate the Insane Guitar
Tools.rfl/NN19 Patches/Guitar Patches/ and select
'single strings.smp'.

Hit the keyboard to hear the single strings as they
would be laid out across a guitar, you might want
to add a little reverb at this stage.
Then go to the 'Edit' menu and select 'import midi
file' and navigate to the 'Chords-midi file' on
the CD and choose 'A minor'. Delete the arppegio
and reset the songs signature from 6 to 4. Copy
the Am chord to each bar. Pan left -32.
Repeat the above step and choose F Major as the
chord, place it on the alternate beat and pan right
32. Add some reverb and a touch of delay.

At this point you will want to add a beat to play
that lovely guitar sound over, so lets create a
Dr REX drum machine and browse the Reason Factory
Sound Bank for a loop that you like.
Create a third NN19 and navigate to the 'Single
Strings Fuzzed' patch on the Insane Guitar Tools
CD. Pan it dead centre, add some reverb and some
delay. Select the NN19 and create a UN-16 Unison.
Set the loop playing and start jamming along. If
your not much of a guitarist you can try downloading
midi files of guitar parts that are close to what
you want and changing them around until you have
the part you like. It should sound something like
this, but your free to make up your own song!

Next create a Scream 4 distortion unit for the lead
guitar sound. Make sure you have the NN19 selected
( it has a red border). Browse the Scream 4 patches
from the insane guitar tools refill until you find
one you like. We have used the 'VocoWah'MP3

Once you have the feel for playing the guitar on
a keyboard create an NNXT sampler and load the 'Power
Chords.sxt', pan it hard left.

Make up a riff over the loop you have selected,
keep it simple, maybe just one chord per bar.
Create another NNXT and pan it hard right. Now play
another chord on an alternate beat to the first
one.
Once you have a riff you like go back to the NN19
and play some lead over the riff. You may want to
change the guitar sound to something a bit more
rocky!

To get an idea of how versatile the refill is try
downloading some of the many .mid files that you
can find on the net and open them in Reason. Then
set the guitar parts to Insane Guitar Tools refill
and recreate your favorite classic guitar songs,
this will five you a good idea of how to ustilise
the refill, enjoy!
